developing leaders for success

executive coaching & reflection help a person to develop and sustain the life they want.

One-to-one development is ideal for senior executives and professionals. Time invested is repaid in balanced approaches, grounded thinking and effective behaviours.

use coaching for development to learn:

  • How to strengthen Emotional Intelligence, to have positive influence and get more done through others.

  • Different ways to build gravitas and impact and use strategies based around flexible communication.

  • To coach, empower and manage others for a high-performance culture.

  • How to prepare for a career transition.

use executive reflection for depth, insight and wisdom:

  • Step outside your everyday busyness to think, review events and make space for fresh ideas and possibilities to emerge.

  • Take time to test assumptions, integrate experiences, and broach deep questions about your life and your leadership.

  • Reflection time is focused on your needs but unlike coaching, it is not directly linked to performance, change or transformation. Consider depth, rather than movement.

  • The power of reflection particularly when done outdoors, is the multiplier effect on your mental, physical, emotional and spiritual energies.

1. Coaching & Reflection Case Study - midlife career transition

David had enjoyed a long commercial career, but his job ran out of steam. As he was well-connected and respected, a similar role was easy to find. But it failed to satisfy him - “Is this it?” he asked.

Through E.R. David saw how much he could offer - to the voluntary sector, to students, to entrepreneurs. He thought maybe he could still grow, too. But he perceived some long-standing patterns in his life, holding him back. We explored these, and he found fresh perspectives on who he is. His curiosity pulled him along to discover what else he could do and be. He uses me now as an accountability partner to keep him on track with courageously pursuing his various options. He’s well on his way to creating a portfolio that reflects his true aspirations for his midlife.

2. Case Study - coaching and reflection for a stressed CEO

Kevin had successfully run a funded organisation that was now converting to a commercial business. Personal challenges added to the stressful business transformation, showing up as a drive to work and respond ever harder and faster. He felt isolated and stuck under his heavy load.

We worked initally on defining boundaries to protect his time and approaching key behavioural changes. Once his well-being was okay, we explored a number of leadership paradoxes and reviewed situations from multiple pespectives.

We walked outdoors whilst talking on the phone 90 miles apart. That helped the reflection sessions to produce not only behaviour change and well-being for Kevin, but also greater clarity, acceptance and self-efficacy for him to continue to thrive.

3. Case Study - mentoring for courage and self-belief

To join the Partnership, Joel was told to convince them about his readiness. He needed to demonstrate the self-possession expected; be correctly assertive and adroit in handling other Partners; to network proactively despite his young family at home; and bring in a significant ‘signature’ deal. He hesitated, yet he had all the skills and qualities necessary. What held him back?

Talking in the wide open air, as the miles passed beneath our feet, we combed the knots out of his situation…

I heard soon afterwards from the Managing Partner - Joel was at ease allowing himself to shine, fulfilling his potential, working with strength and confidence. A couple of months later, I heard he’d made Partner.
